Web designers have more and more control not only of how they approach typography but also the fonts they use and the treatments they style them with, but with great control comes great responsibility. Typography on the web isn't just about choosing the latest pretty font, readability, usability and cross-device scalability must be balanced with aesthetics.
There was a time when the web was only consumed on a desktop or laptop and life was easy, now the web is viewed on every size and shape of device imaginable. Students on this class will learn a modern responsive approach to typography that enables the viewer to comfortably consume content no matter the screen size or device.
Typography is above all a form of communication, a poorly communicated message is hard to understand and makes our brain hurt. Students will learn the importance of typography in communicating a clear message as well as being the basis of the web as we know it.
Don't alienate people by making your content difficult to read, well designed and readable typography is the basis of the web and a good user experience. Students will learn how to make their content readable across multiple devices.
